General
- In an effort to encourage the community to socialize with the residents and also to draw in the lonely in the community - monthly Tea-Mornings are held. During these mornings, our aims is to introduce people to one another and thereby prevent seclusion that might lead to depression. These mornings have been very successful.
- Regular volunteers come to His House Care Center. Our volunteers are dedicated people in the community who also have either full-time jobs or families to look after. Services that are being rendered, include weekly Bible Studies, hair treatments, manicures & pedicures and even just sitting, listening to the residents and having good conversation. Our residents have come to love these volunteers and we are deeply grateful for their precious time.
- Should there be someone who would like to volunteer their services (anything from handy-man, housekeeping etc), please contact our Manager, Ina.
Fund Raising
Finances
Only a small amount of the running costs of His House Care Center, are covered by the rent that some residents pay. Those who cannot afford to pay, stay free of charge. There is a great reliance on donations from both the public and businesses to make ends meet but also to ensure that vital services can be provided for the elderly of Walvis Bay. Regular fund raising functions are held throughout the year.
The books of His House Care Center is handled by HAMILTON & PARTNERS in Walvis Bay. We believe in transparency and should anybody have queries & questions regarding the day to day running of the facility or the monthly expenses, please do not hesitate to contact Ina Jones - our Manager.
Flea Market
We start by 08h00 on the day of sale and continue until all is sold. In 2013, we raised N$32 000, which could be used for the day-to-day running of our facility. Every year since. the total funds raised, have increased. The generosity and support of the public during this sale, is overwhelming!
October-Fest
Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmast Market)
Night of the Arts
Born from a very big dream, Night of Arts was first organized and hosted in 2010 with Andrea and her team. In 2010, 120 guests attended. By 2011, 150 tickets were sold and 2013, the organizers were challenged to fit 190 generous guests into the Town Hall.
Part of the initial idea, was also to create a platform for local artists to showcase their work. Their work is displayed in the adjacent hall and guests have an opportunity on both the night of the ball and the day thereafter, to purchase artworks. This event has become a highlight on the social calendar of Walvis Bay. Apart from the exhibition, guests are entertained by local and international artist during dinner. All artists that part take in the evening on stage, does so pro-bono.
Night of the Arts has also incorporated the auction of various items to the highest bidder. Items vary from Springbok rugby jerseys, to wine collections, to hand made items (made by the residents of His House!) and the generosity of the public is both heart warming and very welcome. Planning for this event started the moment the previous event ended and logistics were set in action by the beginning of each year to better and improve wherever possible. Students from a local high school was trained and used as waiters - as far as possible the local community was involved. The last Night of the Arts, were held in 2014.
